The Bangs!!!

I was really hesitant in giving myself bangs. Especially since my hair isn't always the most obedient. I've been blessed/cursed with really thick and wavy hair. I've been cheating out and throwing it back into a pony tail, but today I thought I would share a really quick and easy style I did. I am sure you all know it, but as part of my transformation, I knew you would be dissapointed if I didn't. :P

What a mess!!!

Gotta flat iron the bangs.  Get them in order!!!

Ahhh that's better.

I call this the temple twist. Taking a chunk at the temple and then.....

....twisting and....

....pinning.

The other side - temple twist and.....

....pin.

Okay so not bobby pinned, but I find this way if it loosens then I can quickly fix.

*LOL* I now see it looks like I am shooting myself when I was really trying to point out the frizzy thick hair at the back.

A little shine mist and hairspray on my brush smooths that out.

VIOLA!!

Fun and Frugalities

With my upcoming trip, I wanted to have a couple of new pieces to wear and show off.   Here are two that I put together tonight.

I bought a grab bag of items at value village and one of the items was this little cat collar.  I shortened it and added some beads.

I know it  probably looks silly, but I like it.  I think it is kind of funky.

In the grab bag there was this feather and I loved the colors in it so I added some frilly ribbon and a black flat sided bead. Attached it to a hair clip and viola.  Love it!

Rockabilly Robynn ohhh where have you been???

Busy busy busy.  Doing what I am not quite sure.

New developments in the hair department though.  Can we say BANGS and COLOR.  I do beleive the bangs should be shorter but I am still afraid of them.  Yes the bangs!  It's been a while since I have had them and my hair curls up all frizzy if I am not on top of them.   As for the color - dirty blonde just wasn't my color. The dirty part perhaps....mwahahahaha.  Back to a nice deep auburn for fall.  So now that I have the bangs what are my options?  I have taken a look around the interweb and have found some great styles I will be attempting in the near future.

Cross your fingers fellow rockabilly's that my birthday comes along with a way coool tattoo.  Shhhh don't tell the hubby but I dream of a great necklace tattoo and sleeves.  LOL

Fun and Frugality - Vintage Purse Revamp

Okay so my current sewing projects aren't getting anywhere. Sometimes you get these great ideas and then all of a sudden the wind disappears from those sails. My sewing ability at the moment has declined due to lack of interest fighting with a certain sleeve of a certain sweater.

Alas do not fear!!! I do have a fun and frugal revamp. My girlfriend and I were out doing a little bit of garage sailing (where you sail past garage sales) and we came across some awesome finds. This is just one of my many. I came across this cute little orange purse for $5.00. It even smells like a grandma inside. Can't get much more retro than that!!! I also came across some studs. (Calm down ladies..the metal ones) They cost me about $.50. So this little project cost about $5.50 and took me about 10 minutes. Just what I like. Cheap and easy... errrrr...

The purse...

The studs....

Setting them on the pattern drawn on with an eye pencil.(wipes off easiest)

Viola.......CUTE!

Haven't disappeared

Well folks, it may seem like I have disappeared or this was a passing fad.  I am here to reassure you that I have not changed my mind on the retro revamp and I AM slowly but surely working on some projects. I got tangled in a few things and so this week for revamps and fun and frugalities my time has been limited.

It started with this need to reorganize and tidy my craft area. For those of you crafting, you know how it can get.  I have also gotten caught up in a couple of side projects and will be sharing them with you at a later date.

Normally you would get a fun and frugality but today it will be a look at some fantastic sites I have come across as of late.

This is on the list of my faves for blogs. So many creative ideas!!! If only I were this crafty!!!

I love nothing more than 1-vintage retro shtuff and 2 - great prices. This woman has an eye for a deal!!!

http://vavoomvintage.blogspot.com/ - Check out this blog for sure. So many great tutorials, information, links. LOVE IT!!!

Okay that's all for me tonight but will be back to show you some progress on my revamps!!!

Fun and Frugal Continued - What's next???

I am liking this title fun and frugal so I am going to keep with it for a few more posts.  What's next?  Hmmmmmmm....Let me see.  So many things to do!!!!

I have some new projects to begin.

This shirt is great because it has a built in corsette. Only problem is it is looking a little worn and it needs a little bit of taking in.  Stay tuned for this revamp.

I love this skirt and have worn it a few times but I think it is time for it to be revamped Rockabilly Style!!!!
I love this little apron and since I have been doing some housewifey canning and shtuff I have been wanting a cute frilly apron. I also figure that my daughter needs one too. Will be posting the apron of choice tutorial soon.

Looking forward to showing you all the fun and frugalities!!!

Fun and Frugal Bracelet

So in my last post, I talked about using stuff from around the house.  I am a crafter at heart and when we moved into this house, I was giving a small space in the basement to where I could collect, craft and create to my heart's content.  Any crafter knows that crafting often goes hand in hand with collecting.  I know I often have a hard time throwing something out if it has craft potential. Every few months I must go through and purge.

The main item in this bracelet is something I have had tucked in my button box. Where did I get it?  I have no clue, but I kept it.  It has never fitted me around the neck and I suppose, like a few pairs of jeans I have still kicking around waiting for the divine intervention and weight to incredibly shrink off, I might have been hoping my neck would shrink too. None the less, I kept it.  I was able to create, what I think is a pretty nifty bracelet and I am very sure that any charms would do.  Same with any chain.  I had remaining charms from this project and I made my daughter a matching bracelet.

My supplies.  The charms I got off of ebay for $1.06. The chain and some o rings.

I measured my wrist and then with wire cutters I cut carefully to create two ropes of metal beads.

Before attaching the charms, I layed them out how I wanted them.

I opened the o-rings and hooked them onto the charm.

Then hooked and closed them around the bracelet.

Viola.  Fun...Flirty and Frugal.  This cost me $1.06 (for the charms) and took me approximately 10 minutes to make.

Fun and Frugal

I know it's been a few days since I have done some blogging but so much is going on right now. With the long weekend and school starting, it seems there is so little time to get anything achieved.

I have to admit I had a wonderful Saturday with my GF. We lounged, had tea, drank coffee and snacked on gourmet-y cheese, crab, salads and cold cuts.  We chatted about the what for's, the how to's, the what if's and the oh-for-sure's, chalking the whole afternoon up to a 'business meeting' of sorts.  Over the next while, I will ad more information about her company and the services she provides through her mobile spa.  YES...she comes to YOU!!!  Sweet eh!!

Okay soooo Fun and Frugal ....

Sometimes I find it hard to part with little bits and bobbles but I could never find enough room to store all of them for future uses.  A few of the items in today's blog tutorial are just those bits.  The ribbon you just couldn't find anything to do with but just couldn't throw it out and the chain that was just cool but once again WHAT would you use it for.

These are the little gems I picked up.  I found the great card iron on transfer at the CNE Arts and Crafts Area and picked it up for what I think is a bargain. The running shoe charms I thought were adorable and found them on Ebay.  Free shipping on those little gems.  The headbands I picked up at the dollarama for ...yup you guessed it. A dollar!!!  The chain is one of those above mentioned bits and bobbles. I have no clue where it came from or how I obtained it but I am sure I have had it around in my craft stuff for years.

HEADBAND FUN

Once more a bit and bobble.  The ribbon I got from a lot sale of scrapbooking materials I bought.  I hung on to it in. I figured my daughter might go to a jungle themed birthday party?  If I lost the few pounds I am working on, I could wrap myself in it and be the hubby's naughty kitty?  LOL....Ahh perfect use. A headband.
My dollar store headband with a dab of hot glue on the end.

Wrapping the ribbon around the headband. I would wrap it three times then add a little bit of glue and so on.

Because this ribbon had the light edging I wanted to be sure to keep it neat and tidy when I wrapped it.

All wrapped and ready for the finishing touch.

Making a bow out of the rest of the ribbon.

Securing thin wire through the knot.

Applying the bow with the wire and a dab of glue.

Viola. I love it.

Stay tuned for the upcoming Fun and Frugal using the crazy chain and charms!!!!

Skirt Revamp

So one thing I have found important during this whole process is to take the time to realize what you already have in your closet.  I was happy to find a couple of pencil skirts. I hadn't worn them since I worked and I want a reason to wear them again.  A pencil skirt is a perfect piece for this type of wardrobe.  So here is my revamp.

Since this is one of my first additions to a piece of clothing I wanted it to be subtle.  I can always add more to it as well.  I printed out this on iron on transfer paper and then ironed it on.  The skirt i think cost me $30 but I have had it for years.  The paper was about $1 for the sheet.  So all in all it was a pretty cheap revamp.

This is the original vision compliments of that wonderful brand...LUCKY 13. Selling for over $50.
